The most powerful marine diesel engines in the world are two stroke crosshead engines. In this type of engine the combustion space, formed by the cylinder liner, piston and cylinder head, and the scavenge space are seperated from the crankshaft by the diapragm plate. Due to the fact that there is no dedicated lubrication system the piston-rod wears out faster. That's why SSM-Europe/Asia has developed a new coating, which makes the surface of the piston-rod wear resistant and will give it a longer lifetime.
The engineering process involves making the surface of the piston-rod wear resistant and ensures extreme load capacity and a longer lifetime.
Coated piston-rods, for Sulzer RTA84 engines, have been in service for more then 30.000 running hours without measurable wear.
Mechanical and physical properties:
-
Extreme wear resistant surface
-
High micro hardness (DPH > 600)
-
Low coefficient of friction
-
Resistance against abrasive and adhesive wear
Customer benefits:
SSM-Europe/Asia's well trained staff employ a variety of all the proven thermal spray including: HVOF:
Combustion, Wire/Powder, Arc wire, High Velocity Oxygen fuel an Atmospheric Plasma Spraying, to achieve an unparalelled level of consistency and quality in the application of coatings wether for one time or for a high volume production run.
